Michael K. Kiernan

Curriculum Vitae

Michael K. Kiernan is the Managing Partner of the St. Petersburg, Florida office of Traub Lieberman Straus & Shrewsberry, LLP.  His practice is devoted to insurance coverage litigation, extra contractual matters and complex products liability, professional liability, construction defect and premises liability matters.  He has extensive trial experience in both First and Third party matters. Mr. Kiernan is admitted to the Northern, Middle and Southern District Courts of Florida as well as the United States 11th Circuit Court of Appeals.

Mr. Kiernan has been named by his peers as one of Florida’s Legal Elite, as sponsored by Florida Trend Magazine, as well as a Florida Super Lawyer.  He is rated A-V Preeminent by Martindale Hubbell.  Mr. Kiernan is an active member of the Federation of Defense and Corporate Counsel (FDCC).  He currently serves as Chair of the FDCC’s Property Insurance Law Section and is a member of the FDCC Admissions Committee.  He has also served two terms on the Florida Bar Civil Procedure Rules Committee.

Mr. Kiernan has lectured extensively on various topics, including emerging areas of Property and Liability insurance matters, Extra-contractual matters as well as complex liability issues. Mr. Kiernan is a lifelong resident of St. Petersburg.  He attended St. Leo College on a baseball scholarship and received his Bachelor of Science in 1980.  He then attended Drake University Law School in Des Moines, Iowa.  Mr. Kiernan was admitted to the Iowa State Bar in 1983 and the Florida Bar in 1984.  Mr. Kiernan is member of Leadership St. Petersburg and the Tampa Bay Sports Commission.  Mr. Kiernan is also a retired Div. I NCAA baseball umpire, having served on the staff of the Southeastern Conference and the Atlantic Coast Conference.
